Lili’s Pick: I Know What You Did Last Summer

Lanie’s Pick: Scream

Succeeding in horror, humor, and high fashion, Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer are must-watch’s for any self-described scary movie fan. This is why I was shocked to discover that my sister had seen neither—we had to bump these up the list immediately. Some of the things that make these films so severely iconic are as follows: the necessarily melodramatic performances of the leads (Neve Campbell and Jennifer Love-Hewitt), their sultry and misunderstood best friends (Rose McGowan and Sarah Michelle Gellar), their suspicious boyfriends (Skeet Ulrich and Freddie Prinze Jr.), the self-aware writing that seems out of left field for stories that are centered around teens being violently and creatively killed—I could go on. We seldom see horror films like these anymore—films that aren’t afraid to make fun of themselves and subsequently stand the test of time.
